Easy tips on how to clean your room and keep it clean. Here are some simple ways you can make your bedroom a place of rest instead of mess!

Why should you make the bed? You’re just going to mess it up again tonight right? Well, maybe there’s more to a bed than sleep – and more to a room than simply storing things.
The bedroom should be a sacred place. A place of restfulness, peace, safety and beauty. You can create this for yourself in your very own home – you deserve it.
Why make the bed?
First, I need to talk about why you should make your bed. It might seem trivial and maybe even silly because you’re just going to mess it up again at bed time. However, there are actually many studies on this very topic and why making the bed every morning is significant.
Here are some findings:
-The National Sleep Foundation reported that people who make their beds are 19% more likely to have a good night’s sleep.
-In his book, “The Power of Habit,” Charles Duhigg writes that making the bed promotes productivity and better well-being.

5 Reasons to Make the Bed
- Starting fresh
- Mental clarity
- Surface space
- Bedding protection
- Discipline
Fresh Start
A clean slate. Turning the page. A new beginning. Everyone deserves a second chance. Maybe yesterday was a horrible day. Maybe you didn’t get anything done, something sad or maddening happened, or maybe you’ve just been feeling down.
It doesn’t have to end there. Today is a new day! Making the bed is a symbol of a new beginning, starting over, or maybe even a new chapter in your life. It is one of those things that lends us instant gratification. Now that is worth the 2 minutes it takes to make the bed.
Mental Clarity
You may not realize it, but when our space is cluttered and out of order, it affects our mental state. Especially for women, mess raises cortisol levels which leads to stress and depression. Making the bed can offer a positive mindset.
Speaking for myself, mess increases the likelihood of grumpiness! When my house is out of order, it feels like chaos is all around me and sometimes I just shut down.
Of course everything cannot be perfect all the time, especially with little ones kicking around! But making the bed is something I can do in just a minute or two to help bring order.
Surface Space
I’ve lived by this trick for a long time: Use the bed as a table. When you make the bed, it becomes flat and clear, lending itself as a usable work area! For what, you might ask?
-folding laundry
-laying clothes out to plan outfits
-packing for a trip
There are countless random tasks you can get done on a straightened bed. My bedroom happens to be on the second floor, and if there is something I want to get done quickly that requires a flat surface, a made bed is much closer than going all the way downstairs to the table. This may seem silly, but in my world of busy children and endless homemaking tasks, every second counts!
Also, things get lost in a messy bed! Where is that matching sock? Where did my scrunchy go? When you make the bed, everything exposes itself 🙂

Bedding Protection
When the bed is made, your pillows and sheets are typically covered by a duvet or comforter, protecting them from dust, bugs or pet fur.
I have cats that sometimes come inside and I would much prefer them to lay on the duvet than shed all over my pillow where my face rests!
House flies are my nemesis. If a single fly touches my pillow or sheet…so help me. I would make my bed if this were the sole reason to do so!
Discipline
And finally, discipline. This sounds so serious and military. I just mean that the train gets rolling when you start doing things, right? Momentum picks up when a small move is made. Productivity leads to more productivity!
Making the bed is a task that offers a sense of accomplishment. You make your bed, and you are rewarded with something that looks nice. This feeling of accomplishment increases the likelihood that you will complete another task in your home.
How to Clean your Bedroom – and keep it that way!
Guess what my first tip is! Yes, you got it:

Make the Bed!
Making the bed instantly makes your room look cleaner. Not only does it tidy up your room, but it offers a work area for tasks like folding laundry, protects your bedding and makes for an easier bedtime routine.
Trick: To make bed making quicker and easier, don’t sleep with sheets! If you love your sheets then just ignore this, but I actually prefer sleeping with a duvet or comforter only because I tend to get tangled in sheets. Anyway, this makes making the bed much faster.
Everything off the Floor
There are some easy ways to keep your floor clear. I use wall hooks for things like robes and belts, clothes hangers in the closet for tops and sweaters, a laundry bin for dirty laundry and baskets for pyjamas and items I wear more than once.

Clear Surfaces
When our dressers are cluttered and full of things, getting ready or settling down can be irritating. Here are some tips to keeping your surface spaces clear:
Little Boxes
I like to keep a small box on my dresser for things like lip chap, deodorant, hand cream, etc. These are items that are not so pleasing to the eye, but they need to be easily accessible. So a little box is a great option!

Functional Decor
I like my space to look nice without having too much stuff. I keep only functional decor on my dresser. A lamp, a diffuser and some candles. Other examples of functional decor might be a jewellery stand or a decorative bowl to set your watch, necklace or hair tie in.
Bonus: Simple Tips for Making Your Bedroom Beautiful
Creating your sanctuary can be challenging depending on your circumstances – maybe your bedroom is tiny, maybe you’re in the middle of renovating, or maybe you’re longing to renovate and can’t stand the ugliness so you just give up. I’ve been in all of those places!
Here are some simple tricks to creating and maintaining a beautiful bedroom; a peaceful space you can retreat to and feel cozy and at home in.
1. Salt lamp – These have a calming effect, they support relaxation and may even purify the air.

2. Natural fibres – Having natural fibres in your bedroom creates a homey and welcoming environment. Some ideas include linen curtains, wicker baskets, cotton bedding and plants, plants, plants! One cannot have too many plants.

3. Minimal electronics – My husband and I charge our phones downstairs because less electronics means less exposure to blue light and EMFs, as well as less stimulation and distractions. This makes for a simplified and serene sleep space.
4. Window film – We added a window film to the bottom half of our window for privacy and decor. It is a simple yet significant touch.

5. Open the curtains – Let the light in! A new day means the sun has risen and the world is your oyster. Brightness induces positivity and natural light is the best kind.

Now Your Room is Clean is Beautiful… But So are You!
A full length mirror! Every woman needs a full length mirror in her bedroom. Why? Because she needs to see herself in order to get herself ready! Starting the day right includes getting ourselves dressed and looking our best. You are beautiful!
