Always on the go? Family making a mess of the place? Here you’ll find simple tips on how to clean your bathroom in 5 minutes — and keep it clean! And when I say simple, I mean it.
Who wants to spend more than 5 minutes cleaning a bathroom? Let’s make it as easy and quick as possible. It doesn’t have to be stressful or hard.
Like my mom always says — KISS: Keep It Simple st*p*d! But I would never say that to you.

Equipment You Need to Clean Your Bathroom
- Bathroom cleaner of your choice
- 2 dual-sided sponges: 1 for the sink and 1 for the toilet (they can be reused a few times)
- Ziplock bag for the toilet sponge (kept open)
- Rubber gloves (optional)
Wisdom From a Gal Whose Bathroom is Clean A-F
I’m telling you. Keep a basket in your bathroom. Have it easily accessible and stocked with the supplies listed above. Watch how often you clean your bathroom compared to before the basket.

If you don’t have space in your bathroom for a basket, keep it somewhere nearby, like the linen closet.
My downstairs bathroom doesn’t have space for anything, so I keep the supply basket around the corner under the kitchen sink.

How to Clean Your Bathroom
Note: This guide does not include how to clean your bathtub. My tips for the tub are pretty much the same.
This might seem obvious…but it wasn’t always obvious to me! It’s important to know how to clean your bathroom properly, because maintaining it then becomes MUCH easier.
This routine should only take about 5 minutes. However, if this is your first time doing a deep clean of your bathroom, it will take longer. The good news is that once it’s deep cleaned, maintenance is easy!
Step 1: Spray the mirrors, every part of the sink, every part of the toilet and the trash can.

Step 2: Use a sponge to clean the sink and faucet. Get into all the nooks and crannies.

Step 3: Use a separate sponge to clean the toilet from top to bottom, finishing with the inside of the bowl and right down the drain. (I suggest discarding the sponge if used for a first-time deep clean).
Step 4: Wash your hands thoroughly.
Step 5: Use the hand towel to wipe down the mirrors, sink, toilet and trash can. You will replace it with a new one.

Step 6: Change the trash if needed.
Step 7: Wash your hands again.
Step 8: Replace the hand towel with a fresh clean one and admire your work!

Why Clean Your Bathroom Often?
- EASE: Cleaning your bathroom often, makes for a much easier job — less to clean and possibly NO scrubbing!
- SPEED: Well if the job is easier, then of course it will take less time…
- SANITATION: Keeping your bathroom clean will obviously keep it more sanitary, and who doesn’t want that?!
3 Tips on How to Keep Your Bathroom Clean
Tip #1 Keep a basket of cleaning supplies in or near the bathroom
I can’t emphasize this enough! Having a basket of cleaning supplies in the bathroom increases the likelihood that you will clean your bathroom often enough. Keep it stocked and easy to grab.

What to Keep in the Basket
- Cleaning product – I have a glass spray bottle filled with my homemade house cleaner.
- 2 dual-sided sponges – 1 for the sink and 1 for the toilet (these can be reused with discretion).
*Trash bags should be kept in the bathroom as well. Mine are in a drawer with the wipes. You do you.
Tip #2 Spot Clean Regularly
This will make for a much easier and quicker overhaul. I don’t mind cleaning my bathroom at all because there really isn’t much to tackle.
- Keep a toilet brush beside the toilet and use it as needed.
- Quick wipe downs as needed make the cleaning job shorter later.
- Toothpaste — just wipe it with some toilet paper as soon as it hits the sink!
- Put things away — clutter makes for a much more time consuming and difficult bathroom cleaning job.

Tip #3 Include Your Family!
Who said cleaning the bathroom is only your job!? Why not encourage your spouse and children to take part? Here’s how:
- Nothing can be lost from teaching your children to clean up after themselves. When my sons tinkle on the seat, I simply hand them some toilet paper and point. I like to remind them that we don’t want to sit in pee!
- Ask your spouse to scrub the tub. I usually ask my husband to do it quickly before the kids have a bath. And again, if done often enough, there won’t be much to tackle!
- Organize your bathroom in such a way that is easy for your family to maintain order. If their toothbrushes and towels have a home, you’re ahead of the game!
Want Your Bathroom to Smell Nice?
- Hang the towels.
- Keep a toilet brush beside the toilet and use it as needed.
- Shake out the bath mat and drape it over the tub ledge. Wash it bi-weekly.
- Open the window(s) when you can.
- Clean your bathroom often ; )
- Change the trash!

Final Tidbits for a Clean (and pretty) Bathroom
- Add a plant to your bathroom — not only does it clean the air, but it adds simple beauty.
- Get your family into the habit of closing the toilet lid — it’s neat and complete.
- Hang simple artwork or framed prints to add charm and warmth.
